The ATRO Difference!

How did ATRO Polyurethane change the way bushings and torque rods are made today?

As one of the world's leading material experts, Dr. Jerry Plunkett of MIT knows what thousands of ATRO Engineered Systems' customers already know:  ATRO polyurethane components for heavy-duty trucks, trailers and buses dramatically outperform the same parts using traditional rubber while improving vehicle ride quality and reducing stress on related components.  That's the basis on which ATRO was formed.  But it's just the beginning.

Since 1984, when ATRO first started developing and testing the range of properties of an up and coming new substance called polyurethane, hundreds of tests and millions of trucking miles have been accrued to arrive at the quality, durability and performance standards that you will find in ATRO bushings, mounts and torque rods.

Since then ATRO has gone on to register over 20 international patents that safeguard the superior designs, principles and formulas gained through hard-fought research and testing. Its products outlast rubber and competitive equivalents 3 to 5 or more times. This dedication to excellence has made ATRO the leading producer of polyurethane replacement parts for truck, bus and trailer.

ATRO’s breakthrough design efforts culminated in the introduction of the free-rotating design. It included chemically bonding the polyurethane to the outer bushing sleeve while the inner pin, now equipped with concentric rings, remained unattached. These fundamental advances lengthened the life of the part, increased durability under extreme conditions and ultimately lead to operating cost reduction as the vehicles experienced less and less down-time for repairs and maintenance.

ATRO's attention to detail and precision manufacturing capabilities were noticed by the US military in 1989. Since then more than 60,000 armored Humvees and tank transports have been equipped with advanced ATRO Polyurethane components.

It’s the same technology that goes into your ATRO replacement parts.

Engineering Polyurethanes with a Purpose

ATRO is the only polyurethane producer that has a score of specific formulas to fit each task within a given vehicle and protect the adjoining components.

Unlike rubber, polyurethane can be formulated thousands of different ways to perform under any combination of conditions. Heavy-duty suspension applications encounter very different environments, stresses and needs; whether it's temperature extremes, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, or load-bearing and spring-back qualities.

At ATRO Engineered Systems, using "off-the-shelf" polyurethane is out of the question. While other companies practice “one type fits all” when it comes to using polyurethane, at ATRO we engineer polyurethanes specific to the part and its end-use. It's the foundation of our business and the reason we are the leader in heavy-duty polyurethane suspension parts and service.

Matching a polyurethane to a specific end-use not only increases longevity of the part, it has everything to do with the containment of vibration, ride and cab stability. In other words, proper polyurethane selection for each capacity creates a synergy among related components that preserves the integrity of the vehicle as it navigates through stress, load and environmental challenges.

Quality: more than a buzz word

In order to design, analyze, test and ultimately provide products to counter these conditions, our engineers use state-of-the-art technology and methods to ensure the consistency and performance of every batch of polyurethane, and the real-world practicality of every design.

We design our parts using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to those designs.

At ATRO, we’ve built our company on determining the absolute best formulation of polyurethane for your specific part and application, and utilizing the absolute best design. So it has to be right . . .every time.

Since ATRO's proprietary polyurethane formulas are designed for a specific part and application, our Quality Assurance department is vital. Whether it's the first prototype of a new product or a polyurethane we've been producing for 20 years, QA testing never ends. Not only are we an ISO 9001 registered organization, but we go above and beyond the stringent ISO 9001 requirements.

The quality of our products is matched by the quality of our talented and loyal employees, many who have been with us since ATRO's inception; the quality of our prompt, personal customer service; and the quality of our diverse aftermarket distributor network.

Offering products that perform like ours is simply not possible without demanding quality in every aspect of our business.

"The properties of Polyurethane are so superior in almost all of their physical properties,
that rubber is really NOT a good competitor... it simply can't compete."
