Austin “Bridesmaid” again as Point’s Race tightens!

CONCORD, NC (July 7, 2009)

With a full moon over the Speedway and “Double Points” on the line, racing Tuesday night at Lowes Motor Speedway for the 2009 “Summer Shoot-Out” Series was filled with excitement.

After winning his heat race for the second straight week, Austin Langenstein was poised for a great run to the checkered flag in his FireFold.com, Rifenburg Construction, Scotty’s Fashions #7 “Young Guns” Bandolero, which was “dialed in” and felt good going into the night’s feature event before a packed grandstand.

“The car was great during last night’s practice session and we were “spot on” during the heat race tonight” stated Austin, who was slated to start in 2nd position for the 20 lap main event.

When the green flag flew in the feature event things got really exciting.  Entering turn 1, the 3rd place car of Justin Carroll made it 3 wide as he and Pole setter Reid Wilson, along with Austin, battled for position.

“Justin was ready for the start and made it 3 wide as we entered turn 1.  I got hung on the outside briefly and I did not want to force the issue so early”, claimed Austin. I settled in line in 5th place and then I knew it was time to “GO” at that point.”

“My main focus was to beat Austin to the front, if I was going to beat him tonight”, Carroll said. He has been good every week during the series and I love racing with him because he will race you clean”.

With Carroll setting the pace, Austin steadily moved up through the pack, picking off one competitor at a time, while showing off some crafty moves for a young charger.

“Justin is a good racer and he pulled a nice move at the start, when I got shuffled to the outside and Reid Wilson jammed in the middle, which was also a strong move.  I knew then it was “game on” for me.  I have a lot of respect for Carroll.  He is somebody that you can trust racing around” added Austin.

By lap 8, Austin was running 2nd and started to chase Carroll down for the top spot.  “I got to Justin’s rear bumper and that was the best we could do with him tonight.  A few restarts helped get us close up on him, but I was just a little tight in the middle to be able to get around the 57 car.  I even looked a few times to the outside and there was just not enough up there to pull off the pass”, Austin said.

“Austin was definitely better than we were in turns 1 and 2, but we had an edge in 3 and 4, so that was the deciding factor tonight; plus beating him to the front did not hurt our chances”, stated Carroll.

“Justin led it wire to wire tonight and we just plain got beat this evening by a better car.  It is that simple.  Another second place finish tonight, and with double points on the line, that cannot hurt when we look at the big picture”, Austin summed up.

Rounding out the top 5 behind Justin Carroll and Austin were Luke Demis in 3rd; point’s leader going into tonight,  Evan Bell in 4t ; with Annabeth Barnes in 5th.

“We are half way through the Summer Shoot-Out Series and I think within the next few weeks it will be very clear who the players will be as we bring this thing to a close.  I’m just going to do my homework and be sure that we put ourselves in a position to capitalize on things within the next few weeks.  We will be just fine”, Austin concluded.
