Austin Langenstein & the #7
FIREFOLD.COM Bandolero featured at Star Leasing Company Open House.
Concord, N.C. (10/5/09)
The KAR Racing Team joined the Charlotte Chapter of the North
Carolina Maintenance Council for their monthly meeting, hosted by
Star Leasing Company at their facility in Charlotte, NC. Star
Leasing Company is a semi trailer leasing company offering one
solution for all your semi trailer needs. They provide purchase,
lease, rental, maintenance and repair options.
“We were extremely proud to host this event”, noted Bill Conrad,
Branch Manager, “and to have Austin and the #7 FIREFOLD.COM
Bandolero join us was very much appreciated.” “I’ve seen this young
man in action on the track and I can tell you he is an awes ome
driver, as well as an outstanding individual.”
The #7 FIREFOLD.COM Bandolero, which competes in the INEX 600 “Young
Guns” Series, not only at Lowe’s Motor Speedway but at other tracks
up and down the Eastern Seaboard, was on display and the “Young Gun”
driver, Austin Langenstein, was on hand to visit with the
Maintenance Council Members, answer questions, sign autographs and
share his experiences.
“It was evident by the way the members interacted with Austin that
they were impressed with the way he handled their questions”, noted
Vic Lammi, Business Manager for the Maintenance Council. “For a
young man who just recently turned 16, his presence and demeanor in
dealing with all the questions, and people seeking to get a little
of his time, indicates he is mature beyond his years”, Vic observed.
“I wasn’t quite sure what to expect”, Austin said, “but once the
questions started to flow it was just like the other events I’ve
participated in”. “Everybody knows about the Nationwide and Sprint
Cup cars, but, few know about Bandolero Cars, unless they’ve been to
one of our races at Lowe’s or Concord”, he noted. “It makes for some
real interesting questions, which kept me on my toes.”
The featured speaker for the meeting was Charlie Langenstein, KAR
Team Owner and Mechanical Supervisor for the #24 (Jeff Gordon) and
#48 (Jimmie Johnson) cars at Hendrick Motorsports. Charlie, a
renowned car builder and self-taught engineer, and a major
contributor to the #48’s run of three consecutive championships,
discussed some of his strategies and techniques for ensuring the #24
and #48 cars are ready to go and are where they are needed, when
they are needed, during the hectic Sprint Cup Championship Season.
“Two keys to success”, stated Charlie, “are planning and
documentation”. “When cars return from the race they are completely
torn down, analyzed and every part is documented and accounted for”.
“Documents”, he continued, “include check lists of each operation
required to prepare for the next race, assigned responsibilities and
procedures”. “Good planning ensures everyone knows what is expected
and everyone is held accountable”,
Charlie noted.
“We operate on a really tight schedule and everything has to run
smoothly if we’re going to have the cars prepared for the next
race”, he continued. “Missing a deadline is not an option, not if
you want to be the best, and I think we’ve proven we’re pretty
good”. “Planning and documentation win championships, anything else
and the best you could be is first looser” Charlie concluded.
In addition to touring Star’s new Charlotte facility, the group
enjoyed a great hamburger and hot dog dinner prepared by Lee’s
Catering.

Austin stated he “had a great time visiting with the members of the
Charlotte Chapter of the North Carolina Maintenance Council. ”We
truly enjoy supporting our sponsors and those who support our team
and our efforts on the track”, said Austin. “Anytime we have an
opportunity to fulfill our role as an ambassador for the sport,
we’re happy to do so”, the young driver happily noted.
“All in all I think everybody had a great time”, stated Bill Conrad.
“The turnout was good, the presentation by Charlie was interesting
and informative, and everyone enjoyed visiting with Austin and
learning about the “Young Guns” Series. “Fact is, this young man has
impressed a lot of people this evening and I believe he’s going to
see a lot of familiar faces at the track during the upcoming Winter
Heats to watch a race or two and cheer him and the FIREFOLD.COM Team
on to victory.”
